My friend shares a birthday with Pete Doherty and Graham Coxon. I’m oddly jealous!
Oh well, happy birthday to the three of you!
Lula Camus
Pete at Lula’s flat in Brick Lane, London on January 16, 2002.
“Pete turned up at my flat unattended, as he sometimes did. He picked up my guitar and started to play. Earlier on that day, I had looked at an L.P cover from The Jam, on which Paul Weller is on stage jumping while holding his guitar. I showed it to Pete and he started to reproduce the act. I instinctively knew that if I didn’t capture this moment, the opportunity would never arise again – The Libertines had just been signed. Luckily, a spare B&W roll of film was lying around. I loaded the camera and shot, asking Pete to keep on jumping. I also did a few portraits of him sitting on a Marshall amplifier, smoking. Pete was very comfortable with being photographed, he was one of those rare people who aren’t self conscious at all. He would play guitar wherever, whenever and was always on the look for some new adventure. That day we talked about life and dreams. He was already taking drugs then but it was nowhere near as bad as what it would become. He was just this young, free spirited man.”
Finally got my student loan this morning and rushed to check there were still tickets to see Pete in a couple of weeks only to discover his second show has now sold out as well. Gutted doesn’t even come close.
If, on the off chance, you know anyone who’s selling tickets, please let me know! First or second show, I’m not fussy!
Having a bit of a Peter day. I don’t suppose anyone fancies a trip to London to see him next month? There’s still tickets left for his second show on the 21st. We could have a lovely day in Camden or wherever else you fancy and then head to Brixton for the show and get a late train home or even saunter around until the morning after.
All together now; N’aawwwwwwwww ♥
They’re both so blatantly in love, they should just run away together and get married and reform The Libertines and live happily ever after making amazing music for the rest of their lives. OK, yep, done ;)
I completely adore this man! Say what you want about him but I think he’s amazing! I think I even managed to convince a security guard of his greatness!
I somehow managed to get to Huddersfield without my ticket earlier so had to go all the way back home for it and didn’t get into Leeds until nearly half 7! I missed most of the comedian’s set but I really quite liked the other support acts (not including that woman who came to waste time before Peter came on….. :’) )
But Pete was fantastic! There were a few songs that I wish he’d played and it would have been nice to meet the man but after missing my train, I got a lift from my friend’s dad and he arrived before Pete came out. It looked like the car was ready for him to jump in and make a break for it anyway though…..
I hope Peter’s OK. I think he has court tomorrow? Reading his blog posts makes me worry about him :’)
And just to carry on the theme, I get to see this beautiful, amazing man tomorrow! :D
